At the macro level, lightweight can be achieved by using lightweight materials, such as titanium alloy, aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy, ceramics, plastics, glass fiber or carbon fiber composites. At the micro level, the parts can be designed more compact and miniaturized by using high-strength materials. Additive manufacturing - 3D printing technology brings space for manufacturing functional integration, compact and lightweight parts.
Honda is carrying out several projects to reduce the weight of body parts, including body frame, engine, crankshaft and bolts.
